Be My Valentine - an Excerpt

Tyler’s eyes roamed over the man who shared the bedroom. Naked flesh ignited a quick fire quiver in her pulses. Broad, tanned, muscled shoulders, smattered with a nest of freckles, tapered down to a lean waist. A smattering of wiry hair darkened his chest. White cotton sheeting hid slim hips. One arm was crooked under his head which lay sideways facing her, his fingers wound through coal black hair. It was an interesting profile. Dark brows arched above the thickest and longest lashes Tyler had ever seen. Why was it that men got the slim hips and lashes? Unfair! She hadn’t seen his eyes, except in the dim light of the club last night, so she had no idea of their color. She didn’t want to know anyway. Did she?

Yeah, right, her conscience answered.

He let out a loud groan that penetrated the silent room.

“Serves you right,” Tyler castigated. “You deserve the hangover from hell, and it looks like you’re going to get it.”

Another groan escaped the man’s lips. He turned over and the sheet fell aside.

Near naked became stark naked. Tyler’s lips pursed together, and warning bells sounded in her brain as she ogled the man in front of her. He was rather a beautiful specimen, she admitted, noting the warm glow she felt as her heart rate increased. A nagging doubt ate away at her confidence. Her ability to force him to do anything diminished minute by minute. The man might be asleep, but Tyler’s face flushed scarlet.

With a determined jerk of her head, she tore her gaze away. Shooting over to the window, she latched on to the half broken plastic ring on the blind and gave it one hard yank down. The blind shot up, spinning round and round, its end flapping against the windowpane.

Sunlight flooded the room. He let out the roar of a lion and groaned as if in pain as he shot up rigid to a sitting position. He blinked, struggling to adjust to the sunny room. “Hell!”

Tyler put a hand up to stop the blind flicking against the window frame. “Rise and shine, buster. Time to get up, dig out your wallet. I think you’ve had enough beauty sleep.” Enough to last a lifetime, Tyler admitted. She’d already been ogling the guy in the dim morning light. He was drop-dead gorgeous, his washboard-rigid stomach bare to the world, bare for her to see. She let her gaze trail down his torso and felt her cheeks heat up. What was wrong with her? She normally didn’t moon after naked men. Mind you, naked men weren’t part of her lifestyle, she added to herself. Tyler’s tongue whipped across her lips, her nerves began to flutter. Did he have to be so darn attractive? Standing straight, she faced him and pushed her shoulders back as she steeled herself against his nakedness, against what his muscled physique was doing to her insides.

Propping himself up against the bed head, he shaded his eyes from the sharp rays of the morning sun. “Can’t you shut that thing?” He pointed at the blind. “God, my head.”

“Serves you right. You sure tied one on last night.”

“Last night.”

“What are you, a parrot?” Tyler chided as he repeated her words.

He let out another pain-filled groan and sank down lower on the bed.

“Another thing,” Tyler continued. “I think it might be advisable if you covered up. Not that I mind, but ... well, we haven’t been introduced yet.” Liar. Be truthful. It’s for your sanity, not his modesty.
